Sterile Bone Wax

Bone Wax is a mixture of beeswax, paraffin, and isopropyl palmitate, a wax-softening agent. It has a waxy odour and is opaque. It’s intended for use in surgical operations to stop bleeding from bone surfaces.

It works as a mechanical (tamponade) barrier to maintain local haemostasis in th bone. It is nonabsorbable and has no biological action.

Individual foil packets containing 2.5 g are provided sterile and wrapped in individually sealed over wraps. Surgical wax is sterilized by Gamma radiation. To avoid the risk of contamination and excessive drying, packets should be opened right before use and utilised right away. Surgical Wax should not be resterilized or exposed to high temperature.
